Short version: your location never leaves your device.
What data this speedometer accesses
When you tap Start, your browser asks permission to share your device’s location with this page. If you grant it, we read a stream of GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, accuracy, and speed where available) directly from your browser’s Geolocation API.
What happens to that data
It’s used entirely inside your browser to calculate and display your current, maximum, and average speed. This site has no backend server that location data is sent to, no database, and no analytics pipeline that receives your coordinates. When you close or reload the page, that session’s data is gone.
What we do store
The only things saved on your device are display preferences — your unit (km/h or mph), your chosen display style (digital or analog), and light/dark theme — kept in your browser’s local storage so you don’t have to reselect them next time. None of this ever leaves your device either.
Cookies and analytics
With your consent, this site uses Google Analytics to understand overall traffic — which pages are visited and roughly how much. If you decline the cookie prompt (or don’t respond to it), no analytics script loads and no cookies are set. This is entirely separate from your GPS data: your location never leaves your device regardless of your analytics choice, and Google Analytics never receives your coordinates or speed readings. Revoking location access
You can revoke location permission at any time in your browser’s site settings; the speedometer will simply stop working until you grant it again.
