About New Speedometer
New Speedometer is a small, independent tool: a browser-based GPS speedometer built to do one thing well — show you your current speed, accurately, without an app install, an account, or a network request carrying your location anywhere.
Why we built it
Most online speedometers we tried either glossed over how GPS speed actually works, or quietly failed on iPhone because they only read the one browser API value that iOS Safari never provides. We wanted a speedometer that’s honest about how it measures speed, explicit about its accuracy limits, and correct on every major mobile browser — see our accuracy breakdown for the details.
Who’s behind this
New Speedometer is built and maintained by an independent developer — not a company, not an ad network, not a data broker. It exists because the alternatives we tried were either bloated with ads, vague about how they actually measure speed, or asked for accounts and permissions they didn’t need.
